Think for a moment of some words that are used to describe men.  Words like strong, macho, proud, stubborn and tough are just a few that typically come to mind. From very early ages our culture teaches men to be a certain way and to fit a certain masculine image.  Men are programmed and are often expected to be tough, resilient and not show weakness.  Sadly, in our world many men still fail to adhere to health practices and engage in such things as getting routine physical exams (See a complete list at:

There is much room for improvement in terms of making men more aware of preventable health problems and encouraging early detection and treatment of disease.  Men’s Health Month incorporates the efforts of health care providers, public policy makers, the media, and individuals, to encourage men to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for disease and injury.  You are encouraged this month whether you are a man or a woman, to familiarize yourselves with some of the information being shared and participate in a health event related to this theme if at all possible. Feel free to share any thoughts, stories, or information pertaining to events you feel may help your fellow reader.
